Cockpit instruments and aviation controls, aviation discipline

About Remus Teo

Operator first. Investor second.

A longer read on the founder behind the homepage: aviation discipline, Singapore operating reality, and why proximity to the customer is the through-line in every venture.

The thesis in one paragraph

I study and build businesses from the operator's seat. That means I care about what actually happens on the ground: how a parent trusts a swim programme, how a coach is trained, how a team handles a bad week, and how capital gets allocated when the story is still unproven.

The homepage gives you the snapshot. This page is the longer view on how that lens was formed and what it produces in practice.

How the path formed

The journey was not linear. COVID rerouted aviation, but the discipline from structured training stayed.

  1. Foundation

    Aviation and RSAF

Fighter-crew training taught systems thinking under pressure: checklists, standards, debriefs, and accountability when the cost of sloppiness is real.

  2. Reroute

    COVID and reinvention

When the aviation path was interrupted, the question became what to build next with the same rigour. Finance education at Curtin provided market language. Teaching revealed a purpose in coaching.

  3. Operator

    Penguin Swim School

Founding forced the full stack: safety systems, hiring, parent trust, coach development, and delivery that could repeat without heroics every weekend.

  4. Today

    Capital and research

The operator lens now extends into investment research and patient capital allocation: underwriting businesses the way you would run them, not just quote them.

The best businesses are built through ownership, proximity to the customer, and relentless attention to systems.

Operating principles

These are the filters behind venture selection, hiring, and capital work.

  • Evidence over adjectives: operations and numbers before narrative
  • Standards before scale: quality systems that survive growth
  • Character before skill in hiring, with skills trained deliberately
  • Customer trust as a designed outcome, not a marketing claim
  • Long horizons for compounding businesses and research
